Frequently-Asked Questions
What is the timeline for roster selection?
All registered participants will be contacted by Tuesday, August 19 and informed on their status with the program for the 2025-2026 winter season. From the time of that contact, families who have been offered a spot will have 48 hours to accept or decline a position in the program.
What is the structure of Hive Pack winter teams?
Each team will consist of 8 players and at least two parent coaches, heavily mentored by Coach Matt. In special circumstances, an exception may be made to allow for a team of either 7, or 9.
In the event that we don't have enough registered players to complete a team of 8, the existing families may be given an opportunity to find additional interested families who could attend a secondary tryout and be invited to complete the roster and allow the team to go forward.
How much does it cost to play on a Hive Pack winter team?
Families will have the option of paying in full for $1200, or making 3 payments throughout the season of $425 each.
This cost covers five months of twice-weekly practice & player development, a specific budget for tournament and/or league games, two practice jerseys, full electronic access to professional team & individual pictures, access to our program's group messaging and calendar platform, and more.
Those who are not able to use their Hive Pack game uniform from last year will need to purchase one for $100.
When and where do teams practice?
Each of our winter teams will have two 75-minute practices each week. These practices will typically take place at one of the Waukee Schools elementary buildings.

A tentative weekly schedule for these practices will be introduced at the mandatory parent meeting during tryouts, but the final schedule will ultimately be determined based on the number of teams involved, and the level of those teams.
What is the competitive level of the teams?
One of the best things about Hive Pack Hoops is the ability to offer competitive opportunities to players at all developmental levels. Some of our teams compete exclusively in tournaments against the best competition in the state, while others learn the game and develop in local leagues against other new-to-hoops players.

The competitive level of each team's schedule is determined based on an evaluation of their developmental level as a team. In general, we have "tournament" teams, that play in approximately 10 weekend tournaments throughout the season, and we have "league" teams, that play in local weekend league games, then additionally get entered into a couple of local tournaments that meet their competitive needs.
Each team, regardless of level, is budgeted a comparable amount for tournament and league entry fees. While the number of games ultimately played by specific teams may differ from others, the costs of acquiring those games is what we track to ensure teams are equally invested.
